The Aquaponic Farm Manager is part of the Farms and Gardens Team, which includes 7 full-time and 3 seasonal staff members. This role oversees all aspects of the Dahlia Campus Greenhouse, including systems management, regulations, compliance, and business functions. The position aims to expand community impact through food production on campus and involves working in a state-of-the-art aquaponic greenhouse, collaborating with an integrative health and wellness center. Responsibilities include managing food production, staff supervision, maintaining operating procedures, data collection, performance improvement, regulatory compliance, supporting distribution activities, and meeting production and financial goals. This position primarily operates Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends and evenings, and participates in the on-call schedule for greenhouse alarms. Essential Job Functions: Team Leadership: Organize and delegate tasks, manage schedules, and provide thought leadership on food access and farm innovations. Greenhouse Duties: Perform maintenance, monitor water quality, manage environmental controls, oversee fish health, inventory, and ensure safety and compliance standards are met. Food Distribution: Collaborate on improving food access programs including farm stand, markets, and donations. Greenhouse Production: Schedule planting and harvesting, ensure sanitation, and handle produce and fish harvesting. Supervision: Manage farm team members, coordinate schedules, and provide training. Sales: Assist with product pricing, discounts, and revenue, including SNAP and Double Up Food Bucks. Community Engagement: Attend events, team meetings, and collaborate on PR and marketing efforts. Required Education: Degree in Agriculture, Aquaculture, Horticulture, Biology, or Environmental Science, or equivalent work experience and coursework. Valid Colorado driver’s license and background check required. Graduate degree preferred in relevant fields such as agriculture, research, or policy. Required Experience: Minimum 2 years in aquaponics, with over 1 year managing an aquaponic operation. Experience implementing and improving a farm food safety plan. HACCP and PSA food safety certifications. Knowledge of fish importation and repackaging laws. 3-5 years working with diverse teams. Skills and Competencies: Experience with Deep Water Culture aquaponics. Strong understanding of biology, chemistry, aquaculture, and crop planning. Attention to detail, problem-solving, and communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Square, and database management. Community sensitivity and responsiveness. Knowledge of food safety standards like GAP, FSMA, and HACCP. Passion for urban agriculture and food justice. Supervisory Responsibilities: Managing 2 full-time and 1 PRN employee. Machines and Equipment: 20,000-gallon aquaponic system, environmental control system, refrigerated van. Physical and Mental Demands: Ability to lift 50 lbs, stand for long hours, work in various environmental conditions, and manage a fast-paced environment with multi-tasking under high-risk conditions.
