Compensation & Benefits:

$220,000 - $250,000/yr (commensurate with experience)

Position Summary

The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) serves as a strategic partner to the CEO and provides executive leadership across the organization’s core administrative functions. This role oversees Human Resources, Information Technology, and Facilities operations, ensuring they are mission-aligned, scalable, and responsive to organizational growth. The CAO is responsible for driving operational excellence, building cross-functional alignment, and fostering a positive, inclusive, and values-based workplace culture.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Integration

• Partner with the CEO and executive leadership to drive organizational effectiveness and long-term planning.
• Lead change management efforts that support strategic growth and staff engagement.
• Align administrative infrastructure with programming, finance, and development goals.
• Design and implement workflows that promote transparency, equity, and operational efficiency across departments.
• Support improved data integration, decision-making, and cross-functional collaboration.

Human Resources

• Supervise the Director of Human Resources.
• Oversee HR strategy including compliance, employee relations, recruitment, DEI, and talent development.
• Promote a positive, mission-aligned organizational culture.
• Develop systems for feedback, performance management, and employee retention.
• Ensure compliance and mitigate risk in partnership with legal counsel and program leadership.

Information Technology

• Supervise the Director or Manager of IT.
• Guide the development of IT strategy, infrastructure, and data security protocols.
• Lead implementation of systems that enhance service delivery and data integrity.
• Oversee data governance and ensure ethical, effective information usage across departments.

Facilities & Asset Management

• Supervise the Director of Operations.
• Ensure regulatory compliance, safety, and lifecycle maintenance across all sites.
• Integrate new properties into operational systems in collaboration with the CFO and Real Estate teams.
• Lead long-term capital planning and sustainability efforts.
• Oversee procurement, vendor contracts, and cost-effective facilities operations.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in nonprofit or mission-driven environments, including executive-level roles.
• Experience managing HR, IT, and Facilities departments strongly preferred.
• Proven success leading complex, multi-site teams within organizations of 200+ employees and $25M+ budgets.
• Commitment to equity, housing justice, and values-based leadership.
• Experience in housing, human services, or a related sector is highly desirable.
• Strong project management, communication, and strategic planning capabilities.
• Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, or a related field preferred.
• Must possess a valid California driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and current insurance.
• Clearance of criminal and credit background checks required.
