POSITION SUMMARY
The Custodian at UP Excellence Academy plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment for students, staff, and visitors. This position is responsible for performing a variety of cleaning and minor maintenance tasks to ensure the overall cleanliness and functionality of the school facilities.
ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES
- Clean and sanitize classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, and other areas of the school building.
- Sweep, mop, scrub, and vacuum floors.
- Empty trash receptacles and dispose of waste properly.
- Dust and clean furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
- Restock supplies in restrooms, classrooms, and other areas as needed.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, fixing minor leaks, and ensuring equipment is in good working condition.
- Set up and break down rooms for meetings, events, and other activities.
- Maintain outdoor areas, including sweeping sidewalks, picking up litter, and performing basic landscaping tasks.
- Monitor and report any safety hazards, needed repairs, or issues to the maintenance supervisor.
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Assist with snow removal and salting of walkways during winter months.
- Collaborate with other custodial and maintenance staff to complete larger projects and tasks.
- Respond promptly to emergency cleaning needs and situations.
- Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment, and request restocking as needed.
- Lock and unlock doors and windows, ensuring the security of the building.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Experience
- Previous custodial or janitorial experience preferred.
Other Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 pounds).
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, proper storage, and disposal methods.
- Strong attention to detail and thoroughness in completing tasks.
- Good communication skills and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, or holidays if needed.
- Commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all school occupants.
WORKING CONDITIONS
