Electric Power Generation (EPG) Field Technician

Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C., is hiring an Electric Power Generation (EPG) Field Technician in Elkridge, Maryland. The Electric Power Generation (EPG) Field Technician position is responsible for accurately diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing complex operational failures to electrical generator systems and related basic engine failures at customer sites. Seeking candidates with a minimum three years' experience diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing complex issues and performing heavy electrical repairs to electrical generator systems and related equipment. Must have experience performing megger and vibration testing and genset alignment. Must have experience installing and commissioning gensets. High school diploma or GED required. Minimum of three years relevant Electrical Power Generation (EPG)/electronics field experience required to be eligible for the $10,000 sign-on bonus. Candidates with less than 3 years' Electrical Power Generation (EPG)/electronics field experience are eligible for a $2,000 sign-on bonus. Bonuses are made in 2 equal installments at 90 days and 180 days of employment.

Requirements for the Electric Power Generation (EPG) Field Technician position include:

  • Must be a strong communicator with excellent verbal and written communications skills.

  • Must be a self-directed and well organized with the ability to prioritize workload while providing excellent customer service.
  • Excellent driving record required with the ability to obtain a CDL and/or DOT certification.
  • Must be able to work additional hours as required and travel out of town, including out of the country to meet customers' demands.
  • Must be proficient in the use of technical software, databases and manuals.

Physical requirements must be met for the Electric Power Generation (EPG) Field Technician job, including the ability to lift, carry, and maneuver items up to 70 pounds, including bulky objects. This position requires repeated reaching, standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, and climbing. Must be able to work outside in inclement weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, dampness, and humidity. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Starting Compensation Range: $33.95-$47.19 per hour. Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, skills, candidate qualifications, education, geographic location, and other relevant business factors. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance e.g. discretionary incentive programs or non-discretionary incentive plans.
