We are currently looking for a Full Time Sr Writer to join our Media Relations Editing Team team located at the Chickasaw Times working .
*Summary:*
The senior writer is responsible for performing research and writing projects involving complex legal, political, social and historical issues, and human-interest features. The senior writer is also involved in developing assignments and editing creative and professional work of personnel involved in promoting a general awareness of the Chickasaw Nation’s programs, services, business, culture and events.
*Responsibilities:*
* Performs research and writing involving complex legal, political, social, historical and human-interest issues
* Prepares, assigns and oversees preparation of press releases, articles, public service announcements and photography designed to keep Chickasaw people, and the general public informed of Chickasaw Nation programs, services, accomplishments or points of view
* Performs, assigns and oversees event coverage and article preparation for The Chickasaw Times
* Coordinates operation of media relations department with other departments within the Division of Communications, media and community Development to complete a variety of projects and assignments
* Monitors Chickasaw Nation divisions and departments for new programs, services, events, activities, awards, etc. for opportunities to distribute information to Chickasaw people and the general public
* Coordinates operation of media relations department with other departments within the Division of Communications, Media and Community Development to complete a variety of projects and assignments
* Works cooperatively with members of the media to share information relating to Chickasaw Nation programs, services, accomplishments or points of view
* Responsible for conception and implementation of creative production strategies for providing information regarding products and services provided by Chickasaw Nation departments, programs or businesses
* Performs, oversees and assists with necessary research for press releases, media advisories and other assignments
* Works to establish and maintain positive working relationships with all Chickasaw Nation departments
* Prepares and oversees preparation of various reports, mailings and correspondence
* Performs all other duties as assigned

* Knowledge of practices and procedures of journalism and media relations work
* Proficiency in the use of cameras and computer hardware and software used in production of work in this field

*Experience:*
Essential:
* 8 years directly related experience
Nonessential:
* 12 years directly related management experience
*Education:*
Essential:
* High School, GED or Equivalent
* Bachelors Degree in directly related field
Essential:
* Bachelor’s degree *in journalism, communications, business administration or related field preferred. Must have a minimum of eight years' experience directly related to duties of this position, i.e. management, journalism, editorial, media relations, communications. *Extensive experience (12 years or more) as managing editor of newspaper or magazine, or similar position may be considered as equivalent to bachelor’s degree.
