Louisville Laboratory Manager (Night) Shift Hours: 1:30am - 10am

POSITION SUMMARY

The Louisville, KY-based Lab Operations Manager is a key member of Zoetis Reference Laboratories' extended leadership team. The Lab Operations Manager uses their reference lab management and people management skills to lead our flagship diagnostic lab based in Louisville, KY. They work with the local leadership team to recruit, onboard, and develop incoming employees. Lead critical initiatives that enable Operational Excellence and drive efficiency improvements. Evaluate, interpret, and recommend key laboratory metrics. Directs operations of both technical & non-technical activities in the lab.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists in recruiting and developing qualified candidates and staff. In collaboration with Human Resources and the Laboratory Admin Director, coordinate departmental interviews, hires, and disciplinary actions. Conduct supervisory evaluations. Acts as a liaison between cross-functional business groups to support task organization from project award to delivery, addressing any identified gaps that may impact scheduled study deliverables. Responsible for leading lean projects across facilities that enhance operations and business processes. Owns, develop, and deploys existing methodologies while advancing and applying lean principles. Evaluates, interprets, and recommends key laboratory metrics; present and deliver to key stakeholders. Collaborates with local leadership to maintain, develop, and monitor budgets, expenses, variances, and strategic planning for the laboratory. Develops, supports, and actively seeks activities and establishes an environment that promotes recognition and retention of colleagues. Interprets and applies department and organizational policies consistently and fairly in managing a qualified, efficient, and productive workforce. Learns new techniques, equipment functions, policies, and procedures quickly and effectively as they are revised, devised, and added to the department. Must demonstrate effective communication skills with staff, clients, and senior Zoetis leadership. Acts as a champion for Quality and Patient Safety while fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Ensures that all colleagues at the location have access to ZRL-controlled documents relevant to their roles and that approved policies and SOPs are being followed at the location. Develops and implements laboratory policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure laboratory performance. Ensures optimal equipment performance by consistently monitoring and enforcing maintenance and servicing schedules in alignment with operational standards.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in a healthcare/laboratory environment. MLT/MLS Preferred/Required Experience: Must have 3+ years managing a laboratory; 5 years preferred

Task and Time Management: Efficient time management and prioritizing tasks while meeting deadlines. Assigns responsibilities and directions for tasks, sets clear measures, and monitors progress. Adaptability: Flexibility to adjust to changing circumstances and new challenges. Collaboration: Effectively working with different departments and teams; establishes relationships and networks across various individuals and groups. Operational excellence skills: process optimization, managing resources and driving continuous improvement. Customer Focus: Dedicated to meeting the expectations of both internal and external customers. Promotes a positive company image and collaborates with customers to solve problems. Conflict Resolution: Works together to resolve conflicts at both the individual and organizational levels.

PHYSICAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to remain in a stationary position for an extended period. Must be able to move about between various laboratory departments. Must be able to bend and crouch to reach files and supplies. Must possess the ability to communicate accurate information, using both written and verbal skills, to clients professionally.
