Hi Kendra! Thanks for your suggestions, I’ll keep them all in mind! I used to live in Sweden, so I’d especially love to tackle the Scandinavian ones 🙂
Hi Kendra, just wanted to let you know, I ended up putting together a Scandinavia reading list!
Love this! What a great idea! Looking forward to reading many of these. I loved Arundhati Roy’s book, The God of Small Things for India and would love a suggestion for Israel!
Best, Jennifer Membreno, @almondeyesmua
Hi Jennifer, The God of Small Things is a favorite of mine too! Thanks so much for sharing your request for books set in Israel, I’ve added it to my list!
Could you please do a list on France. I especially loved your list on japan by the way .
Thank You
Hi Kathryn, I’d love to prepare a list of books set in France! It’s certainly in the back of my mind, as I’ve read many great ones over the years 🙂
I saw your list for 2018 on Pinterest. Kindly tell me why Israel was not included.
Hi Deborah! Thanks for asking. I could only include 52 countries, so I missed quite a few (over 100 countries)! I’m compiling another list for next year, so will keep your suggestion in mind.
I have a trip coming up to the southwest of the US and have Barbara Kingsolver and Edward Abbey on my list but would love to see a list with others. You have done the other lists beautifully and have inspired me to continue my reading and traveling journey.
Hi Autumn, I’m super jealous of your trip! I’d love to start working on some more US centric lists, so thanks so much for your suggestion! Thanks also for your kind words, please do keep me posted if you have any book recommendations I should add! 🙂
Hi Autumn, I hope you had a wonderful trip! Just wanted to let you know I’ve put together an American Reading Challenge, which features books from each state. Happy Reading!
Can you do one for Turkey? I’ve only been reading Elif Shafak books and I would love to find more Turkish authors!
Hi Rosie, it’s on the list indeed! Turkey is certainly a part of the world I’d love to explore more, both in books.. and travels too!
Hi!
I love expanding my horizons through reading (and making lists!), so your site is an awesome find for me! 🙂 I see that you put out requests for places, but I’m very interested in also seeing a list for Black History books, Poetry collections, and especially celebrating women. Would you be interested in creating to-read lists for any of those topics? Even if the answer is no, I still can’t wait to start on your already published lists! Thanks!
Happy Reading,
Kellie
Hi Kellie, thanks so much for your lovely comment! I’m so happy that you might just find your next book here! I’d absolutely love to keep expanding the lists here in future. I particularly enjoy all the topics you’ve mentioned myself – so would love to look into these themes one day. Do you have any favorites you’d like to share? I’m always trying to expand my reading horizons further too! 🙂
I recently traveled to Ghana, which I found to be an amazing country. Since my return, I have been reading books set in Ghana. Unfortunately, I am running low on options. I would love to know of more books set in the country.
Hi SueAn, thanks so much for your request! I’d love to gather a list of books in Ghana, so I’ve put it on my to-do list! Have you read any titles you’d recommend so far?
Hi Ash,
Love your site!
I run a high school book club and wanted to print your world travel list for the group but when I click on the printable it asks me to sign up again. I’m in a loop!
Lynn

I’d love to see a list consisting of the broader Scandinavian countries: Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland (I enjoyed this list!), Faroe Islands, and Åland Islands! I love that your lists allow me to travel to countries I’ve never been and explore the ones I’ve already been to again! Thank you very much for creating this bookish heaven!
Hi Kellyanne, thanks so much for your kinds words and wonderful suggestion too! I adore Scandinavia; I lived in Sweden a number of years ago and have been lucky enough to travel there extensively. Have you visited before? I’d love to put a Scandinavia reading list together, so have added it to my to-do list!
Hi Kellyanne, just a little update – I’ve finally put together a Scandinavia reading list!

I’d love to see a set of books set in England! Not the usual books from Jane Austen, Charles Dickens & Agatha Christie, but a list with books that are a little more obscure. Thanks!
Hi Terri, thanks for commenting! I’d love to collate a diverse list of books set in England – there’s so much more than just the classics! It’s now on my to-do list 🙂
Hi Ash: Just wanted to let you know I suggested your website on another blog I follow. A question came up today on the Travel Fashion Girl Facebook page from a reader looking for books suggested by destination. I’ve been following you for a while and have read several of your recommendations prior to my travels and have very much enjoyed them. Keep up the great work.
Hi Ann, thanks so much for sharing Tale Away! I always love to be connected with like-minded readers and I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed some of our recommendations too. Happy Reading! 🙂
